What exactly is a Daily Gurukool Q&A Seminar?
How can it help you, your business and your teams?
Let’s start with what it is not. It’s not a motivational or positive thinking seminar. We will not make you jump around, pump your fists in the air or show you motivational quotes or share with you success stories of the rich and famous. We will not tell you that if some XYZ person can do it even, you can do it so go out and do it.
Every month we receive lots of requests saying please come and motivate our teams and charge them up (as if they are smartphones) so that they can bring more business to the company. We politely refuse to do that.
The Daily Gurukool Q&A seminar is also not a soft skill training platform or some Mind Power training or some sales or marketing training.
So what is This Daily Gurukool Q&A Seminar? There are four types of “Live Events” that we do. The first is a Q&A Audience Seminar. The audience could be employees of a company, students from a college or school or members of some organization (Like the Real Estate Association) or clients of a business (Like Stock Investors of a broking firm).
During the seminar right from the first minute until the last second, we allow the participants to ask questions. The questions involve various topics like – Self Improvements problems, Health advice, Problems related to Job or Business, Sales Performance, Decision Making Problems, Time Management, Communication Effectiveness, Financial Management, Stock Market, Parenting issues, Relationship issues, Stress Management and hundreds of other such important topics. It’s an open house where anyone can ask any question that is important to them.
To answer questions from such diverse subjects is very challenging and yet very fulfilling. It takes a tremendous amount on learning and efforts on our part to be able to deliver quality answers for our audience. It is years and years of preparation that allows us to do this.
The Second Type of Events that we do is “Decision Making Sessions.” We do these events with the owners of the business, and sometimes it also includes the key top management team. When Business Owners are closely involved and emotionally participating in a decision, it is difficult to be objective about it. You need someone with a subjective and outside view to help you see the gaps in the entire decision process. These events are where we come into the picture.
In our online training program “Daily Gurukool – Success Skills Course,” we have one whole module dedicated to Decision Making (How to Make Smart Decisions and How to Avoid Bad Ones). We Teach some very interesting and brilliant insights about the decision making process there.
We use all those insights and the mental model framework to help business owners refine their decisions. Decision making is an art as much it is a science. You can learn science, but you have to experience art. You get to do both in these sessions. You also learn how to look objectively at your decisions.
The Third Type of Events that we do is “Personal Consultancy.” These are One to One Consultancy sessions. Please note that these are not Therapy sessions (For that you need to consult a certified Therapist). These sessions are similar to the Decision Making Sessions for Business owners. The only difference here is that it is for an individual and more about his/her personal life.
We have a pre-requisite or an Initial condition for this type of consultancy – The Participant must already be part of our Online Training Program available on our website. There are around 300 Plus video lessons and 100 plus Text lessons (On Communication, Self Improvement, Decision Making Skills, Sales and Influence Skills). We also have an Online Q&A club where again we take up some very interesting questions about life and provide some practical and strategic answers to them.
The Fourth Type of Seminar event that we do is “Customised Events.” We get lots of requests to come as a keynote speaker and talk to students about how to handle the work life after college, or some companies want to help their teams with some tools to handle stress, or sometimes there is a request to help people understanding Personal financial management and so on. These are all unique requests, and we customize our seminar accordingly.
We will design our seminar based on what exactly you need. The subject of the seminar has to be decided by you. You have to be clear about what end objective you want to achieve. We will build our presentation around that request, which allows you greater flexibility and at the same time, allows you to remain focussed on what exactly does your team need in terms of training.
So these are four different types of events that we do at Daily Gurukool Live events.
A Tiny Insight into the world of Q&A Seminar?
A small glimpse into the type of questions we address and the variety to topics we cover
How to fulfil your Dreams: This was a question asked to us by a participant in a corporate event. In this question, we shared beautiful insights about being specific about your dreams. Using empty words like Rich, Famous, Successful, and Dreams, etc does not help you, and they mean nothing. We made the audience do an exercise called “Putting a Price Tag on your dream.” It led to quantifying the dream, which then led to real plans of how to achieve it. The small step turned out to be a Giant Leap for everyone present.
How to make the Impossible Possible: A student asked this strange question during a student seminar. Our response was very simple and practical. We suggested that why do you want to do the impossible. To begin with, why not try to do things that you find possible. Why try to become the next Bill Gates (which is next to impossible) instead of trying to become Financially Independent by the age of say 35 ( Which is extremely difficult and yet possible).
The discussion took an interesting turn on why becoming the next Bill Gates is next to impossible. It was a long and healthy discussion, and finally, we agreed to do the possible stuff first. Students challenge you big time with their brilliance. It made us realize India has a bright future because of such students.
Should you Invest Directly in Stock or Prefer Mutual Fund: This is a question from an investment seminar. We have also received such a question in our Online Q&A Seminar. Our answer to this question was a Big Fat No for direct stock picking. We discussed for about an hour about why 95% of the people should not try investing directly and rather take help of Mutual Funds.
Here again, it was a hot and intellectual discussion, and finally, we agreed upon the fact that there are far too many variables involved in determining the future price of a stock. We discussed many aspects of mental biases and lack of decision-making skills that lead to poor investing skills in common people. The discussion became so lively that we kept talking even when we ran out of time. We continued the discussion further with lots of enthusiastic investors over dinner. It was fun and very educative for us too.
How to be happy? This philosophical question was a very interesting one too. Rather than trying to explain how to be happy, we did a small exercise with the audience taught them how to be happy in an instant. Everyone with their eyes closed, sitting peacefully, are transformed into the Happiness zone within a few minutes. It was a simple exercise involving our focus and how it can be used to change how you feel.
The overall learning from this question was that you don’t need anything to feel happy. It can happen in an instant and without any reason. Everyone went home happy that day and yes we were very happy too.
The Unseen Risk in Business no one saw: Once we were consulting with two partners of a financial distribution business. They wanted to understand ways to make their business grow. Now, rather than going forward with that line of thought, we ventured out into a different territory.
All of their business verticals (Software, App, Branch, and Distribution, etc) were related to the stock market. Our question to them was “What will happen when the markets fall big time,” and when the recovery process takes time. It happened in 2008, and luckily, they were not in business at that time, but it could happen again.
This lead to a great realization of how all their Eggs in one Basket and that Basket can crack open one day, which led them to think about diversification and have done it successfully. Their current businesses are still doing great, and with new verticals (Education / Organic Food Products / Seminars), they have taken care of the unseen risk. It was risky for us not to mention the risk, and we are happy they understood it.
The difference between Possibility and Probability: In yet, another Business Consultancy, the owners had a couple of plans, some of which were too ambitious; however, they were very motivated and thought that it was possible. We helped them with a clarification on the concept of Probability.
The idea was very simple and yet profound- given your current circumstances can you become as rich as Mukesh Ambani? Yes, everything is possible, but the probability of that happening may be as low as 1 in a Billion or even less. So when you plan for things, please do consider the Probability of that plan becoming successful. Don’t jump onto the Motivation Bandwagon and go forward with the thought that everything is possible.
Thankfully they understood and are doing great with their business today.
To Motivate or not to Motivate? We once received a request where someone insisted (And we mean “REALLY INSISTED”) on doing a motivation seminar for their teams. So we designed a customized seminar for the team. The theme was “How to have Lifetime of Motivation without attending a Motivation seminar.” It was brilliant, and some exceptionally powerful ideas were shared. Since then, we have not done another one like that. It’s not because people no longer insist, but we are planning to convert that seminar into a book.
The book will allow greater access and reach for the ideas that we shared. However, during all the other seminars that we conduct, we do share ideas and strategies about those topics without really mentioning the word “Motivation.” So yes you will come across a few of those. In the meantime, we hope the book turns out as good as the seminar experience, and yes we want you to buy it (And we mean “Really Want” you to buy it).
The Lady with no talent or skill: Once during a group session, one lady mentioned that she wanted to be successful in life; however, she lacked any talent or skill to accomplish the dream. We tried hard to show her how everyone has some talent, but she would not budge. She had convinced herself that she is not talented enough. So we made a smart move and asked her to identify one thing that she is currently doing well. She shared with us that she is extremely hard working. She can work for hours at a stretch without getting bored or tired.
So then we came up with this formula for her “Find a Dreamer who is working on their dream project, and go work for that person.” This idea clicked to her, and she started talking about two people she knows who are pursuing such dreams and how she can work with them. She was even ready to work for free initially or part-time. No skills or talent was needed; Hard Work was what she could offer, and she did that. Last we heard she is handling the Social Media Marketing for that project (Which she learned on her own with tremendous efforts).
What you lack in terms of natural abilities, you compensate with hours and hours of practice. The Lady put hard work to good use, which made a huge difference in life.
The Couple who had an unsolvable problem: We would not like to mention what exactly the problem was, but what we can share is that both the partners felt that it was a really big problem, and they could not solve it. So both continuously kept fighting and arguing about it. Now and then this problem would come up in their talks and lead to big arguments.
We did not attempt to convince them how to solve the problem. Instead, we took a different path. We gave the couple an example of Diabetes. You cannot solve it or get rid of it; however you can manage it and continue to live happily and healthily — our suggestion to them. Don’t try to resolve the problem or get rid of it; you have tried so many times and failed.
Instead, learn to manage it so that it does not always make the discussion turn into fights. Now, whenever we meet them, we know this system is working. The problem is still there, both have accepted that it is there and yet they learned to manage it and live with it.
Should I quit my Job and start my own business? An Employee asked this question during a corporate event. The plain and simple answer we gave was “NO.” The logic we explained is that a Business is not an Answer to a Job Problem. So many employees when they face problems in the job they come up with this strange idea that they need to do something on their own now. (Bahut ho Gaya Type thoughts).
We discussed at length on why a Job problem has to be resolved in Job only. You should not attempt a business because your boss does not listen to you. A business has to be started for different reasons altogether, and office politics or not being considered for promotion, etc. are not those reasons.
It was a very stimulating discussion because the audience confessed that they had never heard someone talk on these lines. Almost everyone they had heard said YES to this question, and we were perhaps the first to say NO. We felt nice and proud that we could help someone better their thoughts and clarify some important concepts.
How is Q&A Seminar a Better choice than other training formats?
What are the key differentiating points that make this seminar a must for you?
The Questioning Mind: When we were Kids, we learned everything by asking questions. It was the most natural learning method for us even before we went to school. As we grow up the questions reduce, the curiosity disappears, and we become believers. We are so full of our Beliefs that we have almost lost the art of asking Important Questions and seeking answers to them. This seminar is a journey back to our roots– Asking Questions.
Every Change begins with a Question: We observe that a question, a very intelligent or important question almost always precedes a big transformation. Without such a question, life remains the same. Change only comes when you stop for a moment, think and ask yourself how can I become better, how can I stop this, how can I solve this, how can I ensure this never happens again, how can I grow my business, how can I do even better in my job, etc? This seminar allows you to experience change and transformation.
We are no longer in school: We no longer need a Monologue where the teacher talks and we as students have to sit and listen silently. As grown ups, we want to ask questions, we want solutions to our doubts; we want to clear the cobwebs in our minds and clarify things.
We already have far too much information available at the click of a button (Google). We don’t need more information, more stories, and more examples. We need a dialogue with someone. The Q&A Seminar presents a healthy platform for discussion and idea sharing. We will not lecture you, and we will not preach from the podium; we will walk together towards solutions, together we will seek answers to all the important questions you raise.
There are no Right or Wrong Answers: By the time a child finishes school, she faces hundreds of quizzes, tests, and exams. In all these places, we are constantly trained to find the right answer. The moment we find the right answer, we stop looking further. This “Right Answer” approach becomes deeply ingrained in our thinking. It may be fine when we are looking at something simple like “What is 2+2 =?” but becomes a problem in real life.
In real life, the questions are very different, not at all simple, and there are no right answers. There are even many answers to the same problem. So there are no right or wrong answer, only useful or not useful answers. A lot of people ask us, “What if you don’t know the answer to some question while you are in a seminar.”
Of course, at the onset, we don’t know (Because we don’t know what questions someone will ask), but with guided questioning techniques and a few other strategies, we discover the most practical, simple and workable answer- and we do this live in the seminar. You will enjoy this “Live “process of discovering solutions.
It is Different & It’s New: You will rarely find this format of seminars or training. Most of the Seminars we see around us follow the same classroom model of teaching. There is nothing wrong with them, and a lot of them are great too. Some even allow Questions at the end of the session. We, however, begin with Questions.
What we are doing is different and can even be called Radical. There is Madness, but there is also a method and structure behind this madness. We don’t know what questions will come up, what topics will be discussed or even the variety of problems that we will face. However, at the end of the event, it is always a Job Well Done for the audience and for us too. It is an exhilarating experience and almost like a Roller Coaster Ride.
Wide variety of Topics are covered: Every Q&A Seminar has people asking questions from a wide variety of topics. It is a great value addition for the participants. Rather than being stuck to just one topic, we move through a wide range of questions. Yes, it is scary at times as to how much we have to prepare for such a roller coaster ride, but we love it, and so do our audiences. We don’t want our participants to feel as if they are in a school and this period is for Maths so that is all that we will do. We let them decide.
Prepare in Advance: The Q&A seminar allows you great flexibility and adds focus because you can prepare in advance what those important questions are for you or your organization. You can sit with your teams and even prepare the questionnaire in advance, which ensures that we cover everything critical for you. We don’t dictate what we will teach, and it’s you who can decide what you want us to talk about and topics to cover. It increases your involvement too in a big way, and at the same time, it’s an awesome responsibility too.
It’s Pure Strategies: Almost all our questions will start with a “What” (Where we try and investigate the problem or the question) and will eventually end with a “How” (Where we try and formulate a strategy that you should be able to implement right away). So the answers are about an actionable idea and not just more knowledge. We very strongly believe that all our answers should lead to the immediate possibility of action.
The Focus is Today: Looking at the future is important, and there is no doubt about it. However, when it comes to taking action, it is all about now and today. Every seminar focuses on your immediate concerns and problems that if resolved, will lead you into the future. The focus is on today with careful consideration of tomorrow when we share answers.
An example to clarify this point could be about a person who never wakes up early and has ever bothered to exercise. Now, no matter how much I encourage him about the benefit of health and physical activity, he will not move. Our strategy would be to handle today’s problem- How to wake up early. That is where we would start. Once we resolve this, the other things will be easy to manage. So the focus of all our seminars is Today’s Problem and Today’s Solutions with careful consideration of the future too.
Value for Money: 2 Years ago, I attended one training on Effective Communication. All that we got from the training was information and more information. We were made to do strange activities which were, of course, entertaining but way less on the tools and strategies part. We want to ensure that this does not happen to our participants. We try and keep things simple. All that we do is allow them to raise important questions which end up in them learning some tools or strategies of dealing with those problems.
Many Seminars in One Seminar: Each topic that we cover can have an entire seminar of their own. So each Q&A Seminar feels like condensed versions of many. Each seminar brings to you years and years of preparation. It brings you lessons from all the great teachers around the world. It is medium to share with you all the great insights learned from masters who are no longer with us.
It’s a platform through which we try and do our part in helping people to better their lives. Through us, hundreds and hundreds of teachers, mentors, and coaches will be talking to you. We share all that we have learned over the years and refined it with our flavour with you.
The Question that remains now is, “Are you ready for this?”
